Events in New South Wales
Australia's most populated state is home to our most cosmopolitan city..
New South Wales is home to Australia's largest city - Sydney. Over 4.5 million people call Sydney home, and every year, the calender of events gets bigger and better. The obvious events like the Sydney New Years Eve fireworks display, Mardi Gras and Vivid Festival are all popular events with locals and international visitors. However the year is literally jam packed with events every weekday and weekend, from Chinese New Year in Chinatown, to every possible expo imaginable like the Boat Show, Food and Wine Festival and The Sydney Comedy Festival.
Why not check out the living in harmony festival between March 1st - March 31st. Held at Town Hall, there are plenty of hotels and serviced apartments big enough for the whole family in a two bedroom apartment, or a romantic weekend for two in a 5 star hotel. Or if Mardi Gras floats your boat, book something soon in a hotel along Oxford Street, or a great serviced apartment in Surry Hills or Darlinghurst and stay a bit longer to enjoy the full month of parties and parade.
Carriageworks in Sydney's inner west offers great weekend markets and excellent art exhibitions - book a hotel in Newtown, Camperdown or Broadway to be close to the action. Hotels here are cheaper than CBD hotels, and offer great value for money for family accommodation in larger apartments often with balconies.
Of course there is the pinnacle of all Sydney events - New Years Eve. Accommodation in Sydney over New Years eve is expensive and books out early - so be prepared for little budget accommodation. Larger apartments and hotel rooms are especially popular, so generally a 12 month lead time is required for this type of accommodation. Hotels with harbour views are especially, so be prepared to empty the wallet, but enjoy an unforgettable view over Sydney and the best 25 minutes of fireworks the country has to offer.
