Events in Canberra
The countries capital city is not just home to politicians...
From major sporting events, the Canberra Centenary, or every possible national institution you can think of, Canberra has it all in a small compact city. The obvious are all here - Parliament House, The National Art Gallery of Australia, National Portrait Gallery, The Australian Mint, The Australian War Memorial and of course Australian National University and University of Canberra. But Canberra has much more to offer, and is host to some major annual events every year that draw crowds from across the country.
The Canberra Balloon Spectacular will be held in March on the lawns of the Old Parliament House. Book your hotel close to Lake Burely Griffin or in Civic to be as close to the action as possible.
In May, The Canberra International Music Festival will showcase the worlds best classical and contemporary music throughout various venues in the city. Prices range from free, up to $70 plus. Family accommodation during this period will be popular, so book a two bedroom apartment well in advance.
Floriade is arguably one of the most popular events well known throughout the country held in September, where the entire city is alight with colour in every garden and public space. Accommodation sells out well in advance, even in larger business hotels.
In April, why not visit the National Folk Festival held in Exhibition Park - held just outside the city. International and local musicians will take over the city from April 17th - April 21st.
In February, why not head down to the Summerside Festival with the locals, with hotels and apartments available in Civic and cheap hotels still available.
