Known as the capital of the West, the city of Parramatta is approximately 23 kilometres west of Sydney’s CBD (or a 25 minute drive). Situated on the banks of the Parramatta River it is the oldest inland European settlement in Australia dating back to 1788.
Over the last decade, Parramatta has become a major business and commercial centre with several government organisations relocating to the area. Parramatta’s Westfield shopping centre is the second largest in Australia and Parramatta Stadium is also a big draw card for tourism in the area.

There are many heritage listed buildings around Parramatta: Having been built around 1799 the Old Government House is located in Parramatta Park, it’s Australia’s oldest public building and was the former country residence of ten early governors of New South Wales.
Parramatta Park is the former Governors Domain of Parramatta but has since been transformed into a popular recreational area for walking, jogging and bike riding.
There are still quite a few historic buildings and archaeological sites in the park; evidence of 20,000 years of Aboriginal occupation and land use is still visible.
